Licorice Extract Finished Products
MAFCO’s finished licorice extracts are manufactured into four primary finished product types:
| Spray Dried Licorice Extract | Yellow-brown free flowing powder with a characteristic aroma, a mild well balanced licorice flavor profile and clear detectable sweetness. Products are available with glycyrrhizic acid content of 2 to 15% of the extract dry weight depending on customer specifications. This product offers the advantage of ease of handling and improved stability. |
| Block Licorice Extract | Solid licorice mass with a characteristic licorice aroma, strong licorice character with a sweet note. Products are available with glycyrrhizic acid content ranging 2 to 13% of the extract dry weight depending on customer specifications. Customers need to melt this product into a liquid form for use in production. This product is stable under ambient storage conditions. |
| Semi Fluid Licorice Extract | Concentrated aqueous solution with a dark brown/black appearance and high viscosity. The product has a stronger licorice character than spray dried powder with a smooth sweet note. Products are available with glycyrrhizic acid content of 2 to 15% of the extract dry weight depending on customer specifications. This product offers the advantage of eliminating dust and typically requires the preheating of the concentrate to achieve flow ability for use in production. |

All of MAFCO’s licorice extract products are soluble in aqueous, hydro-alcohol and alcoholic systems. MAFCO’s licorice extracts are FDA GRAS approved (21CFR184.1408), FEMA approved (FEMA number 2628) and EU approved under Council Directive 88/388/EEC.
